Detectives raid Bronx fentanyl den, find 2-year-old girl inside drug-filled apartment

NEW YORK — A 2-year-old girl was found in a Bronx apartment that doubled as a packaging mill for fentanyl during a recent raid that authorities on Friday called a “rescue mission.”
The child was not harmed but was taken into custody by the Administration for Children’s Services, officials said. Four other children who lived in the apartment — ages 5, 11, 13 and 14 — were in school at the time, authorities said.
Three adults found inside the apartment were arrested, “dealing a major blow to an illegal drug operation,” Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan said in a statement Friday.
“More importantly, it was a rescue mission,” Brennan added. “Grinding chunks of fentanyl and filling thousands of tiny bags with the deadly powder in the same apartment with a 2-year-old child reveals shocking disregard for human life.”
The raid and arrests happened in the Olinville section of the Bronx on Tuesday afternoon at a three-bedroom apartment on E. 216th St. near Barnes Ave. — across the street from a daycare center.
Authorities said they found two kilograms of fentanyl mixtures with a street value of more than $500,000, plus tens of thousands of single-dose glassine envelopes, some stamped with an image of a goat and the brand name “G.O.A.T. Greatest of All Time.”
Investigators also allegedly seized a bag of drug-filled glassine envelopes from the operation’s coordinator, Jose Cordero-Concepcion, 37, who was just leaving the apartment when authorities executed their warrant.
A sample of the drugs tested revealed fentanyl mixed with medetomidine, a potent addictive veterinary tranquilizer.
Also seized from the apartment was $30,000 cash and various paraphernalia consistent with a drug operation, including grinders, masks, and heat lamps. No guns were recovered, but a box of bullets was found.
The investigation involved a federal task force of federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents, NYPD officers, and state police.
The 2-year-old girl and her mother, Ariendy Jiminez-Hidalgo, 42, were found in a front bedroom, officials said. The mother was charged with drug possession and endangering the welfare of a child. She was released without bail after a brief arraignment.
A law-enforcement source said Cordero-Concepcion is the father of the 2-year-old and the uncle of one of the other young girls living there.
He and Jiminez-Hidalgo are the parents of the three other children, the source said.
Cordero-Concepcion, the tenant of record for the apartment, was hit with the same charges and ordered held on $150,000 bail.
The third suspect, Erik Jesus Reynoso-Burgos, 34, who was seated at a folding table in the dining room, packaging the fentanyl, when investigators executed their search warrant, was also being held on $150,000 bail, with the same charges against him, authorities said.
Christopher Roberts, special agent in charge of the DEA’s New York Task Force Division, said children should not have to live in such conditions.
“A home should be a place where children are protected,” he said, “not where their own parents put their lives at risk for criminal profit.”
Lawyers for the suspects did not respond to a request for comment.
