Marine recruit dies following apparent medical emergency at Camp Pendleton

SAN DIEGO — A U.S. Marine recruit died Wednesday, days after experiencing a medical emergency at Camp Pendleton, military officials said Thursday.
The recruit, who was assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, was undergoing a “routine physical fitness evaluation” at Camp Pendleton on Saturday when the medical emergency occurred, according to MCRD officials.
The recruit died at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.
“The matter is currently under investigation, and officials are conducting a medical review, both in accordance with standard procedure,” military officials said in a statement. “We are committed to providing privacy and support to the recruit’s family, and no further details will be released at this time.”
The identity of the recruit will be released following notification of family.
