A soldier based out of North Carolina’s Fort Bragg was among the fatalities in an Iranian attack on Jordan, according to the Pentagon.

First Lt. Tyler James Feehan was killed Saturday when missiles and drones struck Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command said in a July 20 news release. The incident is under investigation, officials said.

Feehan, 25, is originally from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery Officer in 2019, officials said. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command at Fort Bragg.

He will be posthumously promoted to captain and awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge, the Army said. His past awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Combat Action Badge, officials said.

“First Lt. Feehan’s unwavering dedication to our mission, our values, and the air defenders he led will leave an enduring legacy,” Brig. Gen. John Dawber, 32nd AAMDC commanding general, said in a news release.

Two U.S. service members were killed July 17 in an attack on Jordan, and another was killed in northern Iraq on July 18, “during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone,” U.S. Central Command reports.

Fort Bragg is about a 75-mile drive southwest from downtown Raleigh.
