Funeral services for slain Chicago Officer John Bartholomew set for next week

CHICAGO — Visitation and funeral services for slain Chicago Police officer John Bartholomew are set for next Thursday, and Friday, May 7-8, at St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church in Edgewater.
The May 7 visitation begins at 2 p.m. and lasts until 8 p.m., and the funeral is scheduled for the next day at 10 a.m., according to Bartholomew’s obituary. The church is located at 5649 N. Sheridan Road.
Bartholomew was shot and killed inside Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital Saturday morning while guarding someone in custody.
A second police officer, Nelson Crespo, was critically wounded in the same shooting. Prosecutors have since charged 26-year-old Alphanso Talley with Bartholomew’s killing, alleging that he snuck a gun into the hospital following his arrest, concealed it beneath a blanket and shot the two officers when Bartholomew uncuffed him from his hospital bed.
A judge has ordered Talley held pending trial.
Officials have not provided an update on Crespo’s condition since Saturday.
Saturday’s shooting was the first multiple shooting of Chicago police officers since the 2021 killing of Officer Ella French and the severe wounding of her partner, Carlos Yanez.
Yanez has been present at the George Leighton Criminal Courthouse for much of the initial proceedings against Talley, often flanked by a handful of Police Memorial Foundation advocates and other CPD personnel.
