Body located amid search for missing Texas teen Camila Mendoza Olmos

A body was uncovered in a Texas field amid the search for Camila Mendoza Olmos, a 19-year-old who has not been seen since Christmas Eve, officials said.
The medical examiner has not determined a cause and manner of death, but foul play is not suspected at this time, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told reporters, adding that self-harm may have been a factor in the person’s death. He also emphasized that it is still “too early” to confirm the remains belong to Olmos, but noted they were found “very close” to her home in northwest Bexar County.
“We hope that we can try to expedite that process to be able to get the community answers that everybody’s been waiting for,” Salazar said.
Authorities returned to the field on Tuesday with a “small army” of FBI agents, opting to search it again because of the tall brush sweeping across the area. They located the body — in clothing similar to a description of what Olmos was last spotted wearing — around 5 p.m. A gun was also found nearby.
Olmos was last seen leaving her house on Dec. 24 just before 7 a.m., according to the the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Her family said it was not unusual for her to go out on an early morning walk, and they reported her missing when she did not return. Authorities later released security video that apparently shows her looking inside a car parked outside her home, then making her way down the street. There was also dashcam video that appeared to show her walking on the side of the road.
Salazar said there were “indicators of suicidal ideation” and signs of undiagnosed depression in the case, adding that “fear of self-harm” was also a factor in their search and investigation.
“From what’s being described to us, it sounds like it was a young person going through a very tough time in their life,” he said.
Texas discontinued its clear alert for Olmos on Tuesday evening.
