KHAWA, India (UPI) -- Wildlife officials in India rescued a female tiger that ended up trapped at the bottom of a well near a national park.

The Rajasthan Forest Department said villagers in Khawa reported the tiger, known as T-83 to officials and "Lightning" to locals, was trapped in the well Monday near the Ranthambore National Park.

Forest department officers responded with police and members of the Tiger Watch rescue group, which provided the officers with ropes and a cage for the rescue.

The tiger was tranquilized and hoisted to safety by the forest officers. Witness Shashank Saraswat posted photos of the operation to Facebook.

Officials said they are considering transferring the tigress to another part of the park to keep her from wandering too close to human settlements.
