NASHVILLE (UPI) -- The Nashville Fire Department rescued a cat named Thomas Jefferson from a drainpipe on Election Day, and shared live updates about the rescue on Twitter.

The department first shared a story of a rescue of a parrot that escaped its cage and flew into a tree, but bumped the coverage of "Election Day Parrot" in favor of Drainpipe Kitty.

The cat, named Thomas Jefferson, climbed into the opening of the rain gutter and fell three stories in the pipe before he became stuck.

The NFD shared a photo of Thomas Jefferson in the arms of a firefighter announcing his safe rescue.

"#DrainpipeKitty is free!!!" the tweet read.

They also shared a photo of Thomas Jefferson's reunion with his owner, J.Kline, president of Watkins College of Art, Design & Film in Nashville.

According to the NFD, Watkins' first words to a wet, and presumably exhausted, Thomas Jefferson were, "What were you thinking?"
