Ford E-Transit buyers will be able to get up to 159 miles of range with the 2024 model's extended range option as the Transit cargo van marks its 10th anniversary.

The limited distance a driver can travel on one charge is one of the largest obstacles to electric vehicle adoption alongside affordability. The additional range over the previous model is an increase of 26% on low-roof models and up to 32% increase on the high-roof option, according to a news release, which notes telematics show the average daily range for commercial vans in the United States is 74 miles.

New dual onboard chargers on the '24 model also can charge at a peak power of 176 kilowatts, adding 67 miles of range in fifteen minutes from a DC fast charger for the low-roof configuration, up 49% over the prior battery, or charging to 100% from zero in six hours and 11 minutes using the new Ford Pro Series 2 80A charging station, 22% faster than the prior battery.

The enhancements come as the Transit, the top-selling commercial van in the United States, marks its 10th anniversary. Ford has built more than 1.2 million Transits with more than 99% still on the road being used by more than 280,000 companies and 4,800 state and local governments.

The extended range and faster charging on the E-Transit show "we're not done yet," said Tim Baughman, Ford Pro general manager. "We're working on what's next behind it. The Transit is a key pillar of our portfolio.

"Coming out of COVID, it's really shown the strength of the Transit about how this country, large fleets, small fleets, medium-sized fleets, state, local, federal government all rely on Transit to move this country forward."
