Big nights from Olofsson, Eichel pace Knights to win in Seattle

The Vegas Golden Knights weren’t overlooking the Seattle Kraken going into Tuesday’s matchup at Climate Pledge Arena. The Kraken had defended well through three games. They scored 13 goals.

It didn’t take long to realize the Knights are, in fact, not the Calgary Flames, if there was any sliver of doubt.

Four different Knights found the back of the net in a 6-2 win, but it was overshadowed with the team losing Victor Olofsson due to an injury in the third period.

Olofsson, who scored twice, took a blindsided hit from Seattle center Ben Meyers in the third and had to be helped to the back. Meyers was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct.

Captain Mark Stone had a goal and an assist to give himself 400 points as a member of the Knights, and center Jack Eichel had a goal and three assists.

Center Tomas Hertl had two goals and two assists to pace the Knights (3-1-0), who swept the two-game Pacific Northwest road trip. They defeated Vancouver 3-2 on Sunday.

Goaltender Carter Hart finished with 23 saves. Seattle forward Shane Wright ended his shutout bid 4:52 into the third period.

The Knights improved to 14-3-3 all-time against their expansion brethren. The Kraken (2-2-0) took three of four meetings in a rare season-series win last season.

It was anything but that in this one.

The Knights tacked on three goals in the second period to take a commanding 5-0 lead into the third period. Stone pushed the lead to 3-0 at 1:43 of the period with a shorthanded one-timer off the feed from Eichel.

Olofsson notched his second goal at 13:07 off a dominant shift from his line.

Eichel capped off the period by stripping Seattle winger Bobby McMann at the blue line, streaking down the middle and beating goaltender Joey Daccord with a snap shot glove side.

Seattle attacked the Knights with their speed through the neutral zone and put pressure on Hart. He was up to the task by turning away all 11 shots from the Kraken in the opening 20 minutes.

The Knights gave Hart cushion with two goals in less than three minutes. Olofsson was credited with getting a piece of Rasmus Andersson’s 90-MPH slap shot at 13:02 for his third goal in four games.

Hertl scored his second power-play goal of the year off a feed from Stone at 15:58 for a 2-0 lead.

Stone completed the Gordie Howe Hat Trick by dropping the gloves with Seattle defenseman Brandon Montour in retaliation for the hit on Olofsson. It was Stone’s seventh career fight.
