DETROIT — The odds are slim, the task of making of playoffs nearly impossible at this point. But the Red Wings showed Thursday they're not giving up.

Not at all, actually. Captain Dylan Larkin isn't going to allow it.

Larkin scored three goals — one each power play, shorthanded and sides skating 4-on-4— as the Wings powered to a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Appearing increasingly healthy since returning from a lower-body injury that forced him to miss seven games, Larkin's energy and skill ignited the Wings all evening, as he raised his season total to 34 goals.

The Wings' special teams dominated with four goals. Along with Larkin's offense (Larkin also had an assist, for a four-point evening), Moritz Seider had a power-play goal and four assists for a career-high five-point and four-assist game, and Alex DeBrincat had a power play goal, his 40th goal, as the Wings stayed alive in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Patrick Kane closed out the scoring with his 16th goal, in the third period, finally at even strength. Kane also had two assists for a three-point night.

Goaltender Cam Talbot replaced John Gibson midway in the second period. Gibson (13 saves on 15 shots) was run over early in the first period by Philadelphia's Owen Tippett and appeared to be uncomfortable the rest of his time in net. Talbot came in and stopped 10 of 11 shots.

But the win only allowed the Wings to keep pace in the playoff chase. Ottawa, holding the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, defeated Florida and maintained a three-point lead (94-91) on the Wings.

DeBrincat opened the scoring with his 40th goal, 2:28 into the game. DeBrincat got the puck in front and backhanded a shot over goaltender Dan Vladar. DeBrincat became the Wings' first 40-goal scorer since Marian Hossa did it in 2008-09.

Larkin and Seider scored goals 1:18 apart early in the second period, pushing the Wings' lead to 3-1. Seider scored his 10th goal with a laser from the point past Vladar with the Wings enjoying a two-man advantage. Larkin made it 3-1 on a play similar to DeBrincat's goal, getting the goal at the post, sliding in front and beating Vladar high.

Larkin sent Little Caesars Arena into hysterics a little over three minutes later. With the Wings shorthanded, Larkin scooped a loose puck and scored on a breakaway, his 33rd goal, at 4:56, giving the Wings a 4-1 lead and sending Vladar to the bench in favor of Samuel Ersson.

Porter Martone (power play), Christian Dvorak, and former Red Wing Luke Glendening had Philadelphia goals.
