CHICAGO — Case Keenum took the snap and dived toward the goal line. The 38-year-old quarterback slipped between a pair of Philadelphia Eagles defenders for an easy touchdown to cap the evening.

It was a fitting ending to a remarkable night for the Chicago Bears third-string quarterback. Keenum finished with two touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown while throwing for 247 yards on 24-for-34 passing in a 27-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night at Soldier Field.

From the first drive, the Bears offense was rolling, even with starting quarterback Caleb Williams sidelined by a hamstring injury. Backup Tyson Bagent dealt with a concussion last week and missed most of practice, so the Bears turned to Keenum, who last played in a regular-season game in 2023 for the Houston Texans.

Keenum took the Bears 66 yards on the opening drive and connected with Luther Burden III for a 6-yard touchdown. That was only the beginning.

Keenum and Kalif Raymond connected for a 41-yard touchdown in the second half. Then midway through the fourth quarter, Keenum barreled forward for the 1-yard rushing touchdown, which put the Bears ahead 27-7.

By that point, the Eagles were in deep trouble. The Bears defense provided three takeaways and stymied the Philadelphia offense all night.

In the first half, rookie safety Dillon Thieneman intercepted a pass by Eagles backup quarterback Andy Dalton in the end zone. With his offense zeroing in on the goal line, starter Jalen Hurts had to exit the game for a concussion check. On third-and-goal, Dalton took a shot at the end zone and the ball wound up in Thieneman’s hands for his first career interception.

Linebacker T.J. Edwards picked off Hurts on a key fourth down in the second half. Safety Xavier Woods had the other takeaway with a first-quarter fumble recovery on a ball that defensive end Austin Booker punched out.

Keenum defied all odds, taking down a previously unbeaten Eagles team that has been one of the NFC’s best teams in recent years. He connected with Raymond six times for 90 yards and a touchdown. Running back D’Andre Swift finished with 84 rushing yards on 20 carries.

The Bears improved to 2-1 and take on the New York Jets on Sunday at Soldier Field.
