CHICAGO — Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams avoided any major injury to his right hamstring, according to a report from The Ringer and Netflix reporter Tom Pelissero.

Per the report, the Bears are not ruling out Williams’ possible return for the Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football” at Soldier Field.

Speaking with Bears radio play-by-play voice Jeff Joniak on Monday on WMVP-AM 1000, coach Ben Johnson said he still needed to talk to the training staff, but “it sounds like it’s going to be a week-to-week deal for him.”

While Johnson said Williams “will likely miss some time,” when asked by Joniak if the Bears dodged a bullet, Johnson said: “Potentially, potentially. We’ll see. He’s tough and he comes back from these types of things I think better than the average human being.”

That would be great news for the Bears after what appeared to be a concerning scene late in Sunday’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

On first-and-goal from the 6-yard line, Williams rolled out to his left and initially looked to throw, then took off running. Vikings outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel chased from behind and narrowly missed swiping at Williams’ feet.

An instant later, Williams slid to the ground, seemingly untouched, and rolled over several times in pain. The Bears training staff helped him off the field, and Williams later rode a cart from the sideline to the locker room. He gave the fans a thumbs up on his way up the tunnel.

After the game, he was spotted walking on his own without crutches.

“I’m actually happy that it’s nothing with the knee,” Johnson said after the game. “That was my first inclination, but the hamstring could be pretty damaging as well. We’ll see how bad it is (Monday) and we’ll go from there.”

The Bears came up empty on that drive after a blocked 23-yard field goal, and despite a push in the final minutes, backup quarterback Tyson Bagent couldn’t pull off the comeback against the Vikings.

Williams was scheduled to have an MRI on his hamstring Monday. Johnson is expected to address the media Monday afternoon.
