NEW YORK — The rain poured. The New york Jets blew a 10-point lead. And Green Bay stunned them in overtime.

On a soggy day at MetLife Stadium, the Packers (1-1) defeated the Jets (1-1), 20-17.

Geno Smith completed 27 of 41 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Jordan Love completed 16 of 29 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jets got the ball first in overtime, but two straight sacks and a short pass on third-and-30 forced a three-and-out.

Green Bay took over at its 34-yard line and moved into field-goal range with help from an unnecessary roughness penalty on Jarvis Brownlee. Trey Smack won the game with a 26-yard kick.

Unlike last week’s win over the Titans, when they controlled the game on the ground, the Jets struggled to run against the Packers. They finished with 49 rushing yards. Breece Hall had 29 yards on the ground but added five catches for 63 yards.

Since Aaron Glenn took over defensive play-calling, the Jets have been more aggressive. He used safety and cornerback blitzes to pressure Love, who threw for 387 yards and two touchdowns against the Vikings in Week 1. Love struggled to consistently connect with his receivers through the first three quarters Sunday, but he threw for 51 yards and a touchdown in the fourth to help Green Bay rally.

Both teams were sloppy in a scoreless first quarter marked by penalties and miscues. They combined for six punts and five first downs. Green Bay also lost two players: wide receiver Jayden Reed (neck) and tackle Zach Bako-Bewele (knee) were each carted off and ruled out.

The Packers finally got their rushing attack going in the second quarter, leading to the game’s first points. After Green Bay gashed the Jets on the ground, Love found MarShawn Lloyd for a six-yard touchdown pass and a 7-0 lead. Packers fans in attendance responded with chants of “Go Pack, Go.”

The Jets answered with a touchdown of their own. A pass interference penalty on Keisean Nixon, who was covering Adonai Mitchell, helped extend the drive. Four plays later, Braelon Allen scored on a six-yard run to tie the game.

New York had a chance to take the lead before halftime, but Glenn lost the Jets’ final timeout when he unsuccessfully challenged a ruling that tight end Tucker Kraft was down before David Bailey knocked the ball loose. The Jets got the ball back with four minutes left in the half but couldn’t move it downfield after starting at their 10-yard line. They also showed little urgency to snap the ball in the final two minutes.

After both offenses struggled for much of the third quarter, the Jets found a spark on the ground. Consecutive 14-yard runs by Hall and Isaiah Williams set up Smith’s five-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson, giving the Jets a 14-7 lead. It was Smith’s first touchdown pass for the Jets since 2016.

After three earlier chances to recover a fumble in the wet conditions, the Jets finally got one early in the fourth quarter. Kingsley Enagbare stripped Lloyd on a four-yard carry, and Harrison Phillips recovered at the Packers’ 18-yard line. The Jets settled for a 32-yard field goal from Jason Sanders, extending their lead to 17-7.

Green Bay responded with Love’s best drive of the afternoon. A questionable pass-interference call on Azareye’h Thomas helped move the Packers into field-goal range before Love found Christian Watson for a three-yard touchdown. The score cut the Jets’ lead to 17-14 with 8:02 remaining.

After the Jets went three-and-out, Skyy Moore returned a punt 63 yards to the Jets’ 19-yard line with 4:32 left. Green Bay managed only a 34-yard field goal from Smack, tying the game at 17 before the end of regulation.

The Jets begin a two-game road trip next Sunday against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. They visit the Chicago Bears the following week.
