FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown dislocated his left thumb early in Monday’s training camp practice.

Brown hurt the thumb during a 1-on-1 drill, where he worked against star cornerback Christian Gonzalez. Brown lost the rep and then left the field to get a brace for his hand. Minutes later, he rejoined the offense and continued catching passes.

“I know it’s practice, but I’m not coming out of practice,” Brown told the NFL Network. “Thumb’s out of place? You keep going.”

On his final target of team drills, Brown made a catch against Gonzalez near the end zone.

He did not miss any part of practice aside from the last moments of the aforementioned drill that pitted wide receiver against cornerbacks in the end zone, while the quarterbacks tried to complete passes to them. During full-team drills, Brown started alongside quarterback Drake Maye and caught three of five targets, splitting his heads-up battles with Gonzalez who broke up one of those passes.

Brown, who had a slow start to camp, has caught fire the last few days as the Patriots’ leading pass-catcher in these drills and clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver. After practice, he told the NFL Network he dislocated the same thumb in college and expects to undergo minor treatment later Monday.

The Patriots will return to practice Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. ET outside Gillette Stadium. Fan admission and parking are free, though practices Wednesday and Thursday will be closed to the public.
