'Madden' misspells 'Seahawks,' ranks reigning Super Bowl champs at 10th overall

SEATTLE — Oops, they’ve done it again.

It seems that winning the Super Bowl isn’t enough to make it into the top-10 overall rankings of “Madden NFL 27.” And before you try to say that the Seahawks are in the No. 10 spot, you are mistaken.

That would the “Seattle Seawhawks.”

It’s not the first time that the team has been discounted. And it’s certainly not the first spelling scandal. (Think back to a few months ago when Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba received a trophy that read “Defensive Player of the Year” instead of offensive.)

The “Madden” account posted the top-10 overall teams graphic on X Friday morning with the “Seawhawks” blunder. A community note that reads “It’s Seahawks not Seawhawks” was attached below sometime after the post was made.

The text of the post asked “What changes would you make?”

The responses were dominated by people criticizing the Seahawks’ position in the rankings. Some asked if there was a vendetta against reigning Super Bowl champs. Another said that Super Bowl champs should, at a minimum, be in the top three after retaining the majority of their starters.

Smith-Njigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon are the only players in the top 10 of their positions. Smith-Njigba ranked second at his position and Witherspoon ranked eighth.

Defensive tackle Leonard Williams, who ranked in the top spot in a recent ESPN ranking based on surveys from league executives, coaches and scouts, was ranked 12th for his position.
