MINNEAPOLIS — A day before Minnesota Vikings veterans report to training camp, the team added another experienced defender from new general manager Nolan Teasley’s past.

The Vikings agreed to terms with Jamal Adams, the three-time Pro Bowler who came to Seattle in a trade from the New York Jets in 2020 and converted to linebacker last season with the Las Vegas Raiders. He reached his last Pro Bowl in his first year with the Seahawks, after Teasley helped orchestrate the trade, and his position shift last season could make him an intriguing piece for Brian Flores’ defense in Minnesota.

The Vikings use hybrid players like Josh Metellus, who is listed as a safety but lines up in numerous spots in the defense, and Flores’ blitz schemes bring pressure from unpredictable angles. Adams has 22 1/2 career sacks, including 9 1/2 in his first season with the Seahawks.

His versatility could be intriguing for the Vikings especially as they await a decision from Harrison Smith on whether he will play a 15th season in Minnesota. Smith was a central ingredient to Flores’ deception, orchestrating many of the checks in the scheme while creeping up to the line as a pass rusher or dropping out after showing blitz before the snap.

Adams has just one sack since his last Pro Bowl season, and last year was the first time he played every regular season game since 2018. He dealt with multiple injuries from 2020-24, though he played 448 snaps with the Raiders last year.
