Russell Wilson lands CBS gig after rocky final season with Giants

NEW YORK — It appears Russell Wilson has laced up his cleats for the final time.
The 10-time Pro Bowler is expected to accept the job to replace Matt Ryan on CBS’s NFL Today studio program, according to Front Office Sports.
Ryan left the network this offseason to become the Falcons’ new president of football.
Following April’s draft, Wilson, 37, visited with the Jets and was considered their veteran backup option behind Geno Smith. Now they will evaluate fourth-round rookie Cade Klubnik, Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook, and potentially look to the free-agent market heading into training camp in late July.
Wilson ends a 14-year NFL career that includes 10 years as the quarterback of the Seahawks, during which he won Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013.
In 2022, Wilson was traded to the Broncos and his passer rating declined to a career-low 84.4. In 2024, the Broncos released Wilson, and he later signed with the Steelers, who he helped reach the playoffs. However, Pittsburgh lost their final five games, including their AFC wild-card loss to the Ravens.
Wilson spent last season with the Giants and he started the first three games before he was benched for Jaxson Dart. He threw for 831 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
During his 14-year career, Wilson threw for 46,966 yards, 353 touchdowns and 114 interceptions. He was also named the 2020 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2020 for his charitable work off the field.
