DETROIT — The Detroit Pistons announced on Monday that they have extended the contract of coach J.B. Bickerstaff. Per team policy, the terms of Bickerstaff's extension were not disclosed in the team's press release. The Pistons' extension of Bickerstaff comes a day after he led the franchise to its first playoff series victory in a four-games-to-three win over the Orlando Magic. He did so while helping the Pistons become the 15th team in league history to come back from a 3-1 deficit.

As a result, the Pistons will take on Bickerstaff's former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Since his hiring in July 2024, Bickerstaff has recorded a 104-60 regular-season record in two seasons at the helm of the Pistons, which includes two consecutive playoff appearances.

During the 2025-26 regular season, Bickerstaff coached the Pistons to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 60-22 record. Detroit had the league's second-best defense with a net rating of 108.9, holding its opponents to an average of 109.6 points per game. On the offensive end, the Pistons ranked ninth in the league with a rating of 117.3. They averaged 117.8 points per game.
