Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt says he isn’t coming back to Seattle.

Vogt, a longtime Olympia resident, told reporters in Cleveland on Thursday that he plans to return to manage the Guardians in 2027 and isn’t interested in the Mariners’ managerial opening.

Vogt was the Mariners’ bullpen coach in 2023, commuting from his family’s home in Olympia to Seattle each day.

Vogt was in line to be the Mariners’ bench coach under Scott Servais in 2024 until Cleveland hired him as its manager.

He has led the Guardians to the American League Central title in all three years as manager, earning AL Manager of the Year honors in 2024 and ’25. He is under contract with the Guardians through at least 2027.

There had been speculation the Mariners might try to swing a trade with the Guardians to bring Vogt back to Seattle, but Guardians president Chris Antonetti told The Athletic the Mariners have not inquired about Vogt.

Vogt has strong ties to the Puget Sound region, living in Olympia with his wife and their children for the past 19 years. His wife, Alyssa, graduated from Olympia’s Capital High School and coached basketball at Tumwater High School.

“(Alyssa) reminds me every day that I’m where I’m supposed to be and I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing,” Vogt told reporters Thursday. “She jokes: ‘We don’t need you anyway.’ The worst part of my job is being away from my family.”

He told The Athletic that he and his wife have discussed relocating to Cleveland “every year.”

“Our home and our family is the most sacred thing to us,” Vogt said. “We love the Cleveland area. We love our summer here. I love living here. I just wish I could be in two places at once.”
