Christian Scott, Brett Baty lead Mets over Royals to even series

NEW YORK — A day after a complete slugfest with 28 total runs scored, it was a much quieter evening at Citi Field on Wednesday. And it was a much more favorable outcome for the home team.
Christian Scott’s strong performance and some clutch hitting by Brett Baty led the Mets to an 6-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.
After Jared Young got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in a 1-1 game, Brett Baty lined a two-out, two-RBI single into right-center field, securing a safe lead for Xzavion Curry to record the final three outs in the ninth.
Jose Cuas’ wild pitch in the eighth later allowed Young to score before Francisco Alvarez’s single scored Baty to make it 6-1. Curry gave up an RBI double to Carter Jensen in the ninth for the final tally.
Scott delivered a much-needed solid outing a day after the Mets' pitchers were smacked all around the yard. The right-hander tossed five shutout innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out five. Scott lowered his season ERA to 3.17 in 12 starts.
Tobias Myers tossed two innings in relief of Scott and allowed just one run before Brooks Raley tossed a shutdown eighth. Despite the run Curry allowed in garbage time up five in the ninth, it was an overall strong pitching performance at every level for the Mets.
The Mets will look to take the series on Thursday afternoon, which would be their first series win since June 14 against the Atlanta Braves. Michael Wacha will take the ball for the Royals, while Sean Manaea will get things started for the Mets.
