SEATTLE — While it was a rematch of last season’s back-and-forth American League Championship Series that needed all seven games, neither the Seattle Mariners nor the Toronto Blue Jays have played to the expectations of returning to that same postseason level in the first half of the season.

But one team certainly seems to be at least trending in the right direction.

Buoyed by yet another dominant pitching performance led by Emerson Hancock, the Mariners shut out the Blue Jays for the second straight game in a 4-0 victory Sunday at T-Mobile Park.

Hancock, lefty Gabe Speier and Andrés Muñoz combined for the shutout, limiting the Blue Jays to just three hits.

Seattle pitchers held Toronto hitters scoreless over the final 24 innings of the series.

The Mariners took the weekend series over the Blue Jays and finished the six-game homestand with a 5-1 record. They will open a three-game series in Miami on Tuesday.

The Mariners grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning against Toronto starter Trey Yesavage.

Victor Robles led off with a single to center and J.P. Crawford worked a walk. Both runners moved up 90 feet on Randy Arozarena’s slow roller to third base that went for an out.

Cal Raleigh’s hard, sinking line drive to right field was caught by Nathan Lukes, but it was deep enough for Robles to tag up and score from third with a headfirst slide.

The Mariners tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning when Mitch Garver hammered a 2-2 fastball from Yesavage, sending a line drive into the lower level of Edgar Martinez for a two-run homer.

The 3-0 lead was plenty for Hancock, who pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits with two walks and five strikeouts to improve to 6-4 on the season.
