Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet suffers setback in injury recovery
Published in Baseball
Garrett Crochet suffered a setback in his rehab progression and will press pause on his progression, Boston Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters in Cleveland on Sunday morning.
Crochet faced live hitters in a one-inning simulated game at Fenway Park on May 26. He was scheduled for a multi-inning facing live hitters on Tuesday, but has experienced lat tightness for the last few days and therefore will see doctors and likely undergo an MRI early this week.
The Sox southpaw only made six starts before landing on the injured list April 29 with shoulder fatigue. He owns a 6.30 ERA, with 23 runs (21 earned) allowed and 37 strikeouts in 30 innings, a far cry from his American League Cy Young runner-up performance last season, when pitched to a 2.59 ERA over 32 starts, led the AL with 205 1/3 innings and 814 batters faced and topped all of Major League Baseball with 255 strikeouts.
Crochet is the second Red Sox star to suffer a setback in recent days. Outfielder Roman Anthony’s progression halted Thursday when he experienced discomfort in his injured hand while hitting off a tee for the first time.
