PHOENIX — The San Francisco Giants lost 5-3 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday evening at Chase Field as Ketel Marte hit a walk-off three-run homer off left-hander Matt Gage.

San Francisco entered the bottom of the ninth inning with a 3-1 lead, but Arizona trimmed the advantage to one run on an RBI single by Adrian Del Castillo off right-hander Caleb Kilian.

Kilian recorded two outs and nearly had Ryan Waldschmidt in an 0-2 count, but rookie catcher Daniel Susac was called for catcher’s interference. Manager Tony Vitello brought in Gage, a lefty, to face the switch-hitting Marte. On a 1-0 count, Marte ended the ballgame with a walk-off three-run homer, emphatically flipping his bat before jogging the bases.

First baseman Rafael Devers and shortstop Willy Adames hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the second inning, their sixth and fifth homers of the season, respectively. Along with his homer, Devers doubled and made several slick plays on defense.

Rookie catcher Daniel Susac continued bidding for even more playing time, recording an RBI double, a walk and a single.

Right-hander Landen Roupp, with help from reliever Keaton Winn, ended his night with a fine line, allowing one run over six-plus innings with three strikeouts.

The Diamondbacks plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the first when Corbin Carroll legged out a triple, then scored when second baseman Luis Arraez’s throw deflected off Carroll’s head and rolled into shallow left field. Carroll lost his helmet while running the bases, so Arraez’s throw caromed directly off Carroll’s skull.

San Francisco’s offense immediately responded in the top of the second, stringing together several loud swings to take a 3-1 lead. Devers began the inning with a towering 441-foot homer to center field, then Adames immediately followed up with his own solo homer. Susac plated the Giants’ third and final run of the inning with a double to drive in Matt Chapman.

The Diamondbacks loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with one out, knocking Roupp out of the game in the process, Winn induced an inning-ending 4-6-1 double play to maintain the Giants’ two-run lead.
