BALTIMORE — The kids have arrived, and it looks like they’re here to stay.

Orioles rookies Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers both hit their first home runs of the season on Wednesday in an 8-3 thrashing of the Texas Rangers. The team’s two top prospects entering the season, Basallo (2 for 5, RBI, run) and Beavers (3 for 5, RBI, 3 runs), combined for 838 feet of home runs to shrug off their respective slow starts and help Baltimore (3-3) salvage a victory in the series finale.

Trevor Rogers cruised through six innings of two-run ball for the win on the pitching side. The Rangers struggled to barrel him up all afternoon, picking up eight groundouts and striking out three times against him. Rogers improved to 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA on the young season, and his 1.76 ERA over the past calendar year is the lowest in MLB among pitchers with 20-plus starts.

He got an early cushion from his offense with some help from center fielder Leody Taveras. Making his first career Orioles start, Taveras haunted his former team by going 2 for 2 with a double, two walks, two RBIs and a run scored. He scored the first run in the second by going first-to-home on a Taylor Ward double in the second and drove in a pair with a double that one-hopped the wall in right field the following inning.

But the primary drivers of the Orioles’ lineup were its rookies. Basallo, 21, and Beavers, 24, combined to go 5 for 10 with two RBIs and four runs scored. They both entered the game hitting below .200 and left with reminders of what they’re capable of doing for the Orioles’ lineup this season.

Albert Suárez took over for Rogers and secured a three-inning save in his return to the majors after replacing the injured Zach Eflin on the roster Wednesday morning.
