Las Vegas Motor Speedway announces naming of the Kyle Busch Classic

LAS VEGAS — Long before he was a NASCAR star, Kyle Busch was a standout at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s The Bullring.
Busch, whose death at 41 in May shocked the country, was turning laps on the three-eighth-mile track by age 13. In recognition of the key role the Las Vegas native played at the venue, LVMS announced Wednesday that The Bullring race scheduled for Oct. 2 will be branded as the Kyle Busch Classic.
“The designation establishes a new tradition that honors one of motorsports’ most accomplished drivers while celebrating one of the track’s greatest hometown champions,” officials said in a press release.
The event will feature the CARS Tour Series West, including Modifieds, Bandoleros, Legends, ARCA, CARS Tour Pro Late Models and CARS Tour Limited Late Models, and will coincide with NASCAR weekend at LVMS.
“The Bullring has been home to so many unforgettable moments throughout its history, and Kyle Busch has been at the center of many of them,” Patrick Lindsey, the LVMS senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement. “Establishing the Kyle Busch Classic ensures Kyle’s impact at The Bullring will continue to inspire future generations of racers and create a signature event fans can look forward to every fall. We are proud to recognize everything Kyle has accomplished and celebrate the place where his racing began.”
Busch’s widow, Samantha Busch, expressed her thanks for honoring Kyle.
“The Bullring is where it all began for Kyle,” she said in a statement. “It’s where he fell in love with racing, where his dad, Tom, first taught him the sport and where he spent countless nights racing alongside his brother, Kurt, while his mom and grandma cheered them on. Those early years shaped not only the driver the world came to know but the husband, father and person we loved so deeply.”
Gates will open at 4 p.m. on the day of the event, while opening ceremonies will begin at 5:30 p.m., and racing action will begin at 6:10 p.m.
