A London evening has something for everyone

By Rick Steves, Tribune Content Agency on

Whether you splurge or economize, an evening in London has the potential to knock your socks off. You'll never exhaust your entertainment options in this bustling city.

IF YOU VISIT...

SLEEPING: Lime Tree Hotel is a gem in the tony Belgravia neighborhood, with 28 spacious, stylish, thoughtfully decorated rooms (splurge, www.limetreehotel.co.uk). Conveniently located Bakers Hotel shoehorns 12 brightly painted rooms into a small building and offers breakfast.

EATING: The Savini at the Criterion is a palatial 1870s dining hall offering an Italian menu (224 Piccadilly, tel. 020/7930-1459). Rules Restaurant is plush and extremely British -- traditional with formal service, yet comfortable (35 Maiden Lane, tel. 020/7836-5314).

GETTING AROUND: Several lines of London's famous subway, the Tube, run all night on Fridays and Saturdays; night buses and cabs are other options.
