The God Squad: My annual little things to give thanks for list

Rabbi Marc Gellman, Tribune Content Agency on

The Bible teaches us that “The blood is the life” (Leviticus 17:11) and this has never been more true. I am thankful this Thanksgiving for all the people who still donate blood and for all the people who help them give the gift of life. The American Red Cross tells us,

There is no known end date in this fight against coronavirus, and the Red Cross needs the help of blood and platelet donors and blood drive hosts to meet the needs of patient care. Please schedule your next donation appointment now to help prevent another blood shortage.

The American Red Cross is testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. As part of that effort, plasma from whole blood donations that test positive for COVID-19 antibodies may now help current coronavirus patients in need of convalescent plasma transfusions. We are committed to helping others in meaningful ways during this pandemic.

The Red Cross follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need.

So before you go out and adopt a pet, give blood.

God bless us, one and all.
