(UPI) Police in New Mexico said they performed an unusual animal rescue when an apparent escaped pet discovered in a tree turned out to be an iguana.

The Farmington Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers responded to a report of an animal in a tree near the old Tibbetts Library and they arrived to find an iguana perched on a branch.

Police captured the iguana and took it to the Farmington Animal Shelter.

Officials said they believe the iguana to be an escaped pet and they are trying to find its owner.
