(UPI) A trio of camels surprised Missouri residents when they escaped from a petting zoo and went for a stroll in the St. Louis area.

A Wednesday post on JeffCo 411, a Facebook page for locals in Jefferson County, shows the three camels wandering down a dirt road.

"Anyone Missing Some Camels? Seen Off Rock Creek Rd?" the post said.

Sandra Wiseman, manager of S+S Farms Exotic Petting Zoo, said the camels, named Jersey, Joe and Jed, wandered off when a family member apparently failed to properly latch a gate.

Wiseman said the post was brought to her attention and she went to get the camels' harnesses so she could capture them, but in the process she discovered the animals had come home on their own.

"The hump day comments were rather priceless. They were hilarious," Wiseman told KMOV-TV. Yes, there are camels in Jefferson County.

Wiseman said the camels are extremely friendly and work as therapy animals.

"We do special needs. With Joe, he does wheelchairs. We do Shriner's Hospital, Camp Wonderland, they're around people all the time," Wiseman said. They're very docile animals.

She said the unusual threesome only wandered about half a mile from their barn and were gone for less than an hour before they returned on their own.

"They took off, went up the hill, smiled real pretty for the camera and came home," Wiseman said.
