Roots and the Cancer Moon

Holiday Mathis on

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). When someone sees your specialness, it's meaningful. And when someone treats you like you're not special, it's totally fine -- but maybe that person doesn't belong in your inner circle.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). There are some things that are manageable chiefly because you know they will come to an end. When it's not clear when that end will be, however, they become scary. You can use this principle to set someone at ease today.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Because of the day's events and how you handle them, when your head hits the pillow tonight you will have the sense that you have come to a deeper understanding of the world and your place in it.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 12). New practices started this solar return have you growing richer in health and happiness by the week. Teaching is part of this. The rest of 2017 is about giving others what they need and cannot get on their own. This will not drain you; instead, it will make you unstoppable. Prizes in November and July will be notable. Cancer and Leo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 18, 9, 30, 2 and 45.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: "My friend says that when she dreams she goes to the astral plane and has an entirely different life there. What is the astral plane? Am I going there, too?"

Before the advent of the telescope, many cultures around the world believed that the space between earth and the heavens was populated by angels, spirits, gods and the like. Plato and Aristotle wrote that the human psyche is made out of the same matter as the heavens and stars -- a material that did not coincide with the four classical earthly elements of fire, air, earth and water. The fifth element, called aether, was believed to have no physical qualities. Subtler than light, it is the element that makes up the astral plane.

There are many beliefs about what can happen there and who is involved. You can think of the astral plane as another dimension, or you can think of it as simply imagination. There is no physical proof that it exists or doesn't exist, and yet your visits there can have a profound effect on your life and the lives of others, since many things that happen on the earthly plane begin first in the land of imagination.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Hugh Jackman will play the godfather of show business in a musical biographical celebration of the P.T. Barnum, "The Greatest Showman." Jackman is a charismatic triple threat who is as comfortable singing and dancing on Broadway as he is tearing up the big screen as a Wolverine. His natal sun, Mercury and Uranus in artistic Libra are accented by Venus and Neptune in Scorpio.
