The Bulls released their summer-league roster for play that begins Saturday night in Las Vegas against the Clippers.
But the practices are far more important than the games.
Derrick Rose participated Tuesday night in the first session of a three-day minicamp that began at the Berto Center. Rose isn't scheduled to travel to Las Vegas when the team leaves Friday, and the practices are closed to reporters.
"He looks great," coach Tom Thibodeau said last week.
Thibodeau also said last week that Rose has told the Bulls and USA Basketball he plans to attend the minicamp in Las Vegas from which the U.S. entry in September's World Cup of Basketball in Spain will be selected. Rose had raised some doubt about his participation in comments to Yahoo Sports.
But Rose still was listed on a release from USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo on Russell Westbrook's withdrawal from consideration on Tuesday. Westbrook's decision to rest his knees could aid Rose in making the team.
"Derrick has worked his butt off the last couple of years," Bulls Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen said Tuesday on SiriusXM NBA Radio. "The kid really puts in his hours in the gym. Hopefully this season will pay off for him. He just has had some bad luck."
