U.S. Chamber, White House trade non-barbs

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- A lobbyist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said it would take the high road in what he called a "name-calling campaign" from officials at the White House.

"We're not going to take the bait and engage in a name-calling campaign here of invectives back and forth. We're going to stay focused," lobbyist Bruce Josten said, The Washington Post reported Monday.

The White House denied it was trying to alienate the chamber. "There has, of course, been disagreements," said Deputy Press Secretary Jen Psaki. "But we're going to continue to work with the chamber on a variety of issues," Psaki said.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is scheduled to appear as a keynote speaker at the chamber's November board meeting and President Barack Obama has invited both chamber and National Federation of Independent Business members to a discussion at the White House Thursday, the Post reported.

But tensions remain. During his run for president, Obama said he would "work for the American people" rather than "well-connected interest."

"Under the Obama administration, Washington is changing and the role of big lobbying organizations like the chamber has changed as well," Psaki said.

The chamber of commerce is in business to help big business make big profits and the rest of the world be damned so of course they oppose every attempt to reform health care and health insurance.

It is the Chicago/Obama way

They are not and will not ever be gracious. They did not come to Washington to be congenial. They came to bulldoze their way into our lives and our pocketbooks. So far, so good...from their standpoint. Heaven help us.

Name calling ? Flying invectives ? Oh my , has America's senate and form of parliament dissolved into the totally unruly and rude , table slapping name calling shinnegans of the British or Canadian style of Government ?
Its quite shameful when teachers bring students to our Parliament on field trips to see our Government processes in action and you can hear them say as they leave "and don't you ever behave like that in my class ."
At what point do politicians go from being somewhat well mannered and considerate citizens to the unruly , fouled mouth ,rude bunch of yard apes you see during certain Governmental processes ?
You would think that many of those that hold positions within President Obama's administration would be wanting to graciously hear from the Chamber of Commerce and National Federation of Independent Business as these two groups bring with them vital information ideas for promotion for business development . If you were going to make a somewhat creditable assessment of small , med, or large business needs and over all health of businesses in all parts of the US these would be the 2 groups to talk to .
