From the rhetorical figure "macrologia", use of excessive or redundant words. As with most rhetorical figures, this one comes from Greek: macros "large, long" and the ever popular logos "speech". It is interesting to note that word has also been picked up by tech nerds and is used as computer jargon for a set of excessively complex macros.
