Siberian tiger captured after multiple sightings in Russian city

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia (UPI) -- Authorities in Russia said a Siberian tiger was captured in the city of Vladivostok after several days of sightings, but residents said the big cat might not be alone.
Police in Vladivostok recently announced they were arming themselves with machine guns to hunt the tiger after several days of sightings culminated in video of the predator running across a busy street.
The Amur Tiger Center announced the tiger was tranquilized and captured safely Friday after a driver spotted it at the side of a road and alerted authorities. The driver captured video of the tiger lurking at the side of a dark road.
The tiger was taken to a rehabilitation center in Alekseevka village, where officials said the animal might be released back into the wild -- albeit much further from urban areas -- in the spring.
Some locals suggested the tiger might not be the only one in the city, pointing out how the spot where the big cat was captured was several miles away from its previously known location.
Officials said it's possible that another tiger is hiding out in the area, but there is currently no evidence to suggest a second big cat.
