STONINGTON, Conn. (UPI) -- The U.S. Coast Guard stepped in to transport a pregnant manatee found in frigid Massachusetts waters to the warmer climate of Florida.

A video shared by the Coast Guard shows the manatee, named Washburn, taking a ride in an airplane Tuesday, a month after she was rescued from Nantucket Sound and taken to Connecticut's Mystic Aquarium when officials became concerned about the dropping water temperatures.

Washburn arrived safely at Sea World in Orlando, where officials said they plan to release the manatee back into the wild.

Experts said manatees aren't usually found further north than Georgia, so they are baffled as to how Washburn ended up off the coast of Massachusetts.
