NEW YORK (UPI) -- New York police responding to a reported burglary apprehended a different type of suspect -- an alligator living in a bathtub.
The New York Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad tweeted photos of the 2-to-3-foot alligator discovered by members of the 121st Precinct during a burglary investigation about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said the officers arrived to find the back door of the Staten Island residence was open and no humans were found inside.
The alligator, found in a bathtub, is believed to be an illegal pet. It was seized and taken to Animal Care and Control.
