Congressman mocks GOP with Craigslist ad for speaker

Published in Weird News

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- A Democratic congressman had fun on Thursday with the GOP's current battle over the Speaker of the House job, a tweet said.

Mark Takano (D-Calif.) and his staff made up a phony Craigslist job ad for the Speaker of the House position, being vacated by John Boehner (R-Ohio), and posted it on Takano's Facebook and Twitter pages.

The lawmaker's joke came about four hours after former White House senior advisor to President Obama, David Axelrod, tweeted Republicans should take out a Craigslist ad to solve the "mess."

"Are you an American citizen?" the listing read. Do you have experience negotiating hostage situations? Are you ready for the challenge of a lifetime? Then this job is for you!

Takano's staff took a screen shot of the preview of the ad on Craigslist, but didn't actually post it.

The phony ad came about after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) unexpectedly withdrew his name from consideration for the speaker job.
