CASPER, Wyo. (UPI) -- A Wyoming man who filmed himself using a small aircraft to chase a herd of elk pleaded no contest to a charge of big game harassment.

Kevin Christopherson, 53, a Natrona County School District trustee, said he pleaded no contest May 20 the charges stemming from the 2014 video filmed in Converse County.

Christopherson was sentenced in Natrona County Circuit Court to one year of unsupervised probation and a one-year suspended jail sentence.

The video, filmed Sept. 23 of last year and posted to YouTube three days later, depicts Christopherson in an ultra-light trike, a type of small aircraft, flying close to the herd of elk and chasing them.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department said the viral video resulted in more than 30 tips from concerned citizens.

Christopherson said he was attempting to help the Game and Fish Department by showing the size of the herd on video. He said he provided a copy of the video to officials before posting it online.

"I have every reason to believe that I was helping them," Christopherson told the Casper Star Tribune.

Christopherson said the misdemeanor charge will not affect his work on the school board.
