LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- A slow-speed chase Monday morning in California came to a close after a skilled police driver employed a PIT maneuver to spin the sport-utility vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol said officers attempted to pull the SUV over Monday morning in Ventura County after a report of a suspected drunk driver and the pursuit turned into a slow-speed chase on the eastbound 101 Freeway when the driver, who was talking on a cellphone, refused to pull over.

The chase extended into Los Angeles County, where an officer executed a PIT maneuver -- or precision immobilization technique -- to cause the SUV to spin out of the driver's control in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The suspect, still talking on the phone, got out of the vehicle and was arrested about 7:30 a.m.

The identities of the suspect and whoever he was speaking to on the cellphone have not been released.
