A Texas attorney who was fatally shot at a McDonald’s over the weekend was attempting to calm an angry customer in the moments before he was killed, according to authorities.

The suspect was still at large as of Wednesday afternoon. He’s accused of twice shooting 46-year-old Jeffrey Limmer, an attorney for Lewis Brisbois law firm, outside the McDonald’s on the Katy Freeway in Houston on Saturday, KTRK reported.

According to the Houston Police Department, the gunman was dissatisfied with the food he received and demanded a refund from employees. Limmer reportedly tried to pacify the irate patron, who only became more frustrated.

Police said the confrontation ultimately spilled outside the fast food restaurant and into the parking lot, where Limmer allegedly pushed the man to the floor.

In turn, the suspect retrieved a firearm from his nearby vehicle and shot Limmer twice. The lawyer then managed to stumble back inside the McDonald’s, where first responders pronounced him dead a short time later, police said.

“He loved fiercely his family and friends,” Limmer’s sister Jennifer Thomas told KTRK. “Always laughing, making jokes, and just loving life.”

Police said the suspect fled the scene in an early 2000s blue Ford pickup truck, but they did not provide a description nor further details.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing and anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division.
