Why Your Cats Keep Biting and a Couple of Simple Tricks to Stop the Biting Today

Nick Brydon
Is your cat turning into a little blood sucking vampire, attacking your toes and fingers at every play time opportunity? If so, I know how frustrating it feels, and lets be honest - it is not exactly a safe environment for you, or your family, right?

There are many suggestions to prevent cat from biting, but the problem is that most of them are more reactive (such as spraying them with water) than proactive.

Cats that bite, usually do so for a number of reasons, all of which stem back to their behaviour and training (or lack of). The problem is, unlike dogs, most people do not associate training with cats. However, effective cat training is very real, very proven and very possible for anyone to apply.

First and foremost, you need to have a method to control or distract your cat from biting people. A great toy you can try is a fishing rod type of toy.

Simply use it to dangle it at him and he will be able to attack it. Then, simply keep doing it to tire him out. Or you can try taking a ball and throwing it up the stairs for him to chase and play with.

The whole idea is to simply distract your cat and keep him busy.

If your cat is actually still a kitten and has not been neutered yet, then there is a good chance the behaviour may calm a little once they are able to run around outside.

However, not all cats shake their biting habits that easily, and many cats actually end up bitter and nasty (you know the types - the ones that the whole neighbourhood avoids and hates!).

Isn't it time you discovered why most cat training aids don't work, and how to get inside your cat's mind and quickly teach them perfect behaviour from any age? Well, right now, you can discover these secrets for free, with my 9 part guide to perfect cat behaviour at http://cattrainingtricks.com. FERAL cat was a Viscious Biter

My neighbour rescued a feral adult cat and was terrified of her so she gave her to me. This cat did not just nip people. She was the most viscious biter I have ever seen, even after she was spayed. I wore leather gloves for several months. Here's the one training method that worked. As soon as "OREO" started to bite I put her on the floor, held her down, held her head to the floor, stating firmly, "NO!, NO!
NO BITE!" I did this countless times. One day a friend with a mouse problem asked if I had any cats ready for adoption. I said you might not want this one, but try her. Well, this cat has turned into the most gentle, loving cat. It's amazing but she rolls on her back to be patted on the tummy. She even caught a mouse last week. The family(with no small children) is so pleased. This is my "Miracle Cat" story.

Biting Cats

My cat, Missy, will "nip" at my hand, but, only after she licks it. I adopted her last year and she is really smart. She was a stray and had seven kittens under a friend's porch. They kept all seven kittens (now a year old), because they couldn't find good homes for them. They couldn't keep Missy because she could not get along with their other cat. She is very domineering and has to have all the attention. And yes, she has been spayed and all the little ones were altered too.

I'm 60 and have yet to met a cat everyone hates. Or a dog, for that matter. There are many humans who qualify for "eveyone hates" prize.
Basically liked the article except for the part where one lets the cat(s) outside. Outside is not safe for cats because the human animals are too cruel to trust.

That story is fine if that was the reason they are biting. My cat Calvin who is about 19lbs (big boned) nips at me when he wants attention, whether it be for treaties, petting or his food dish is empty, he either bites my leg or stands up and paws at me, and god help me if his dish is empty, he will knock you down trying to get ahead of you to the bathroom (he eats weight-management food) and low calorie treaties (greenies), he's lost about 2 pounds this year.
