Famous Deer - Flag (The Yearling)

Flag was the precious fawn that was befriended by a young boy in the novel and movie, The Yearling. The book was written by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who won the Pulitzer for this work. The 1946 film won Oscars and starred Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman. According to various Internet sources, Flag in real life was trained by Walt and Gert Boettcher who owned a tourist deer farm in Wisconsin. They used their well-trained deer to help market their farm.

Warning: Spoiler to Follow: Wyman's character in the movie, Orry Baxter, had to kill Flag in the movie for ruining important crops the family needed.

Following the movie's release, Wyman's daughter in real life wouldn't speak to her mother for weeks after Wyman's young daughter watched the movie (Source: IMDB.com).
