The Wild can’t lose if they don’t trail.

That was the strategy that helped them fend off the Flyers, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena and sweep their road trip.

Overall, the Wild have won five in a row away from St. Paul.

The Wild are one of the NHL’s best first-period teams, outscoring the opposition 20-12, and that fast start was enough to outlast the Flyers … albeit barely.

Matt Boldy and Michael McCarron scored 31 seconds apart in the first period for the third fastest pair of goals in Wild history. McCarron’s goal was his second in as many games; he had the game-winner in the 5-1 victory over Washington on Sunday.

Then 42 seconds into the second period, Joel Eriksson Ek buried a Boldy rebound.

Eriksson Ek, Boldy and Quinn Hughes (assist on Boldy’s goal) pushed their point streaks to six games.

Not extending their lead during back-to-back power plays in the second period put the Wild under pressure the rest of the way.

The Flyers’ Tyson Foerster tipped in a goal after Philadelphia’s penalty kills before a one-timer on the power play by Denver Barkey in the third turned a blowout into a photo finish until Danila Yurov’s late empty-netter. Kirill Kaprizov's assist on the goal also extended his point streak to six games.

Jesper Wallstedt made 23 saves in his 10th win of the season, tying Carolina’s Pyotr Kochetkov for the league lead.

The Wild are back at Grand Casino Arena for a weekend back-to-back starting Friday against San Jose.
