SAN JOSE – Sam Dickinson scored his first goal of the season but the San Jose Sharks’ offensive frustrations largely continued Monday in a 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames at SAP Center.

Dickinson scored an even-strength goal off assists from Jacob Trouba and Kiefer Sherwood to cut the Sharks’ deficit to one at the 11:57 mark of the third period. But the Sharks could not find the equalizer as they wrapped up a four-game homestand with a 1-3-0 record.

San Jose goalie Yaroslav Askarov finished with 20 saves, and Flames goalie Dustin Wolf, a Sharks nemesis, stopped 26 shots in the win. Wolf, a Gilroy native, entered Monday with a 10-2-0 record and a .919 save percentage in 12 career games against the Sharks.

Adam Klapka and William Stromgren scored for Calgary, with Stromgren’s goal, his first in the NHL, came on a Flames rush as he was left alone in front of the San Jose net.

The Sharks have now scored just four even-strength goals in their last four games as everything remains a struggle. Nothing is coming easy.

Against the Calgary Flames on Monday night, the Sharks had 17 shots on net in the first two periods but couldn’t beat Wolf. In the third period, Will Smith hit the post on one look from the slot, and minutes later, Mason Marchment fired wide on another.

The Sharks also missed the net a staggering 23 times on Monday.

The Sharks made a couple of sloppy turnovers in the opening period, and one led to the first Flames goal.

Defenseman Nolan Allan tried a cross-ice pass inside the Sharks’ zone for Will Smith, but Flames forward Adam Klapka stepped in front of it and fired a wrist shot from 40 feet away that beat Askarov low to the glove side.

It marked the sixth straight game that the Sharks have allowed the first goal.

Dickinson also had a bad turnover in the first, as his pass to the slot from behind the net created a Flames scoring chance but not a goal.

The Sharks were playing their seventh straight game without center Alexander Wennberg and their fifth straight game without winger Igor Chernyshov. The Sharks are now 1-4-0 without Chernyshov and 3-4-0 without Wennberg.
