LAS VEGAS — Mitch Marner scored the game-winner with 2:19 remaining in overtime, and the Vegas Golden Knights won their fourth straight with a 2-1 victory against the Los Angeles Kings at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.

Marner’s goal came on a power play seconds after Kings center Scott Laughton was called for tripping.

Rookie forward Trevor Connelly scored his first career power-play goal, and goaltender Carter Hart made 26 saves.

The Knights (5-1-0) played extra time for the second straight game following a 4-3 shootout win over Toronto on Thursday.

Saturday capped off the weekend-long celebration of the Knights’ inaugural season with “Welcome to Impossible Knight.” Members of the first-year team, including coach Gerard Gallant, participated in pregame festivities at Paramount+ Plaza.

Others from the first year sent pre-recorded messages that played on the jumbotron, including Marc-Andre Fleury, Malcolm Subban, Tomas Nosek and David Perron.

The Knights also wore their original gray sweaters for the final time. They’ll be retired from the rotation going forward.

It was fitting that on a night where the first-year team was honored, the Knights and Kings played to a goal-less draw through the first period. It prompted flashbacks from the first-round series in Year 1 and the goalie duel between Fleury and Jonathan Quick.

Of course, there’s the slight talent gap comparing Fleury and Quick to Hart and Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper, but both goalies in the modern-day matchup did their part to keep the puck out of the net.

It took a power play for both teams to open the scoring.

Connelly scored in his second game on the top power-play unit at 2:37 of the second period for the 1-0 lead. The rookie’s second goal of his career came on a backdoor finish off a pass from captain Mark Stone.

The Knights allowed the Kings to get back into it because they uncharacteristically kept going to the penalty box. Los Angeles was given three power plays within the first 25 minutes of the game.

The Knights have been one of the best teams at taking the fewest penalties the past few years. It bit them the third time. Kings winger Artemi Panarin’s wrist shot from the high slot rattled around the net and in at 6:21 to tie it 1-1.
