DETROIT — That didn't take long.
The Detroit Red Wings were forced to go into overtime Sunday but it only took 36 seconds for Alex DeBrincat to score his 26th goal, giving the Wings a 4-3 overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators.
DeBrincat came down on a 2-on-1 rush, was fed by Andrew Copp, and fired a top-shelf shot, high past goaltender James Reimer.
The Wings (30-16-4, 64 points) remain tied in points with the Tampa Bay Lightning for the lead in the Atlantic Division.
Axel Sandin-Pellikka (power play), Lucas Raymond and James van Riemsdyk (power play) added Wings goals.
The Wings briefly lost Raymond to an upper-body injury at 9:42 of the second period when Ottawa's Ridly Greig hit Raymond near the head area. Raymond was able to get up but headed straight to the locker room and missed the remainder of the period.
Raymond was back in the lineup to begin the third period.
Raymond's 15th goal tied the game 2-2. Raymond skated down wing and snapped a shot that beat former teammate, Reimer, up high at 6:06 of the second period.
The Wings took a brief 3-2 lead on van Riemsdyk's 13th goal, and one of the slickest of the season. After gathering a rebound net-front, van Riemsdyk positioned the puck and went between his legs to flip the puck over Reimer, at 16:53 of the second period.
But Ottawa evened the score just before the end of the second period. Shane Pinto tied it 3-3 at 19:05, tapping in Claude Grioux's pass, Pinto all alone at the edge of the crease.
Drake Batherson and Dylan Cozens (power play) scored first period Ottawa goals.
