Chelsea Gray has watched her Las Vegas Aces teammate A’ja Wilson do some very special things on the basketball floor.

She doesn’t take it for granted.

“You can’t get bored with watching greatness,” Gray said. “I’m around it all the time, but I’m surprised every day. I don’t ever want to get to the spot where I’m just comfortable with that.”

Wilson turned in yet another spectacular performance on Friday night, pouring in 45 points on 15-of-18 shooting as the Aces won their third straight game with a 101-94 win over the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Friday night.

“I feel great,” Wilson said. “When you’re able to find shots within our system and just let the flow of the game take over, that’s big for me. I’m going to be efficient. It’s beautiful to rack up all these points and ‘Oh my gosh,’ but are they going to be efficient. That’s key for me. That’s the numbers I look at. If I’m able to do that, I know I’m going to be OK.”

She was far better than that on Friday for the Aces (3-1).

The four-time MVP made both of her 3-point attempts and all 13 tries from the free-throw line on her way to a season high in points.

“She was unbelievable,” Aces coach Becky Hammon said. “I thought she got a lot of early touches to get her going and then we were just kind of riding her from there.”

Wilson hit a 3-pointer and followed it up with a 3-point play to snap an 11-0 Connecticut run late in the third quarter that had cut the lead to two points and gave the Aces more breathing room entering the final period.

“My teammates trust me in that situation,” Wilson said.

The Aces, who also won Wednesday in Connecticut, have now beaten the Sun (0-4) in 10 straight meetings. Connecticut simply had no answer to Wilson’s breakout performance after three good, but not elite, performances to start the season.

“You always want the best player on the planet to shoot more,” Hammon said. “You spend a little time out in training camp with bumps and bruises and I think now she’s just trying to get her rhythm back and get her legs underneath her. This game she clearly did.”

Chennedy Carter added 18 points, while Chelsea Gray had 12 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

“When you have somebody dropping 45 and only missing three shots, that’s amazing to be able to play with,” Gray said. “So of course, I’m going to try to find her every way I can.”

Hailey Van Lith had 17 points to lead the Sun.

The Aces wrap up their four-game road trip with a game in Atlanta on Sunday.
