Steph Curry has been ruled out for at least five more games as he and the Golden State Warriors seek to manage his knee injury during their flailing end-of-season push.

The Warriors announced yet another 10-day extension of Curry’s absence due to knee inflammation, the third such window since the All-Star break as he has missed the last 15 games.

Curry has begun on-court workouts, though, which is progress over prior updates.

The first game after Curry’s next evaluation would be March 21 against the Atlanta Hawks, when they complete a back-to-back road set amid a six-game trip.

Golden State’s 37-year-old superstar has not played since leaving a Jan. 30 loss to the Pistons late in the game.

The Warriors are 5-10 over Curry’s absence, though they have not fallen far in the standings. Now just under .500 at 32-33, they finally dropped to ninth in the West behind the Clippers after losing back-to-back games Tuesday in Utah against the Jazz and Wednesday at home to the Bulls. Prior to that, they had been locked into the No. 8 seed since mid-December.

It is a near-certainty that they will be in the play-in tournament, decreasing the pressure for Curry to rush back. They are seven games behind the Denver Nuggets for the sixth and final guaranteed playoff spot, and 8.5 games ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies in 11th place after trading away Jaren Jackson Jr.

Without Curry and Jimmy Butler, who is out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in January, the Warriors’ chances of a late-season push or a deep playoff run appear remote.

Curry missed the All-Star Game in Los Angeles midway through February, but he was seen around the festivities and on NBC’s broadcast of the event, stoking excitement that he may be returning soon.

But when the Warriors reconvened after the All-Star break, coach Steve Kerr said the swelling in Curry’s knee had not improved, and he would need to miss more time. He underwent an MRI and was ruled out for 10 more days at that time. At the end of that period, the Warriors ruled him out for an additional 10 days until Wednesday’s re-evaluation.

In the meantime, the Warriors traded Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to Atlanta for Kristaps Porzingis at the deadline, changing the roster around their two-time MVP.

Curry is averaging 27.2 points per game on 46.8% shooting (39.1% on 3-pointers), adding 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds.

He has played in 39 of the Warriors’ 65 games so far this season. Curry has only played fewer than 51 games in a season twice in his career: In 2011-12, ankle injuries limited him to 26 games, and in 2019-20, a fractured hand knocked him out after just five games.
