Francisco Lindor keys Mets' walk-off win over Brewers

NEW YORK — The Mets had a one-run lead coming into the top of the ninth, but right-hander Austin Warren put the first two hitters on base before giving up a game-tying RBI double to pinch-hitter Christian Yelich.

Warren, who recently came off the injured list after dealing with forearm tightness, blew what would have been his first save of the season, and was pulled with just one out.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Francisco Lindor snared a line drive by David Hamilton to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the 10th, Trevor Megill, the brother of injured Mets starter Tylor Megill, got the first out, then intentionally walked Carson Benge, and walked Luis Robert Jr. to load the bases. Christopher Morel hit a chopper to third base, but Hamilton’s throw was off target. Lindor came home safe, and the Mets walked off in the 3-2 series opening win.

This came after Left-hander Nate Lavender tossed two scoreless innings in relief, continuing his impressive rookie streak. He hasn’t allowed a run in nine innings and has given up only one hit, walked two hitters and struck out 11.

Left-hander Zac Thornton pitched well enough to give the Mets a chance to win, and after giving up a run with two outs in the top of the fourth, Lindor helped him out in the bottom of the fifth with a game-tying home run off left-hander Kyle Harrison (one earned run on six hits, five strikeouts over five innings).

Robert put the Mets ahead 2-1 with a shot off right-hander Chad Patrick in the bottom of the sixth, leading off with his 10th of the season.

Thornton went six innings, holding the NL Central’s first-place to team to one run on seven hits, and struck out four.
