Rays make a deal, acquire veteran starter Freddy Peralta for 3 prospects

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays found the starter they had been seeking to add to their rotation, acquiring veteran right-hander Freddy Peralta from the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon.
The deal, which has yet to be announced by the teams, is for three minor leaguers: outfielder Aidan Smith, infielder Emilien Pitre and right-hander Gary Gill Hill.
Peralta, 30, is 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts for a bad Mets team. On a playoff-bound 2025 Milwaukee Brewers team, he was 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA and finished fifth in the NL Cy Young Award voting.
Over nine major-league seasons, Peralta is 75-51 with a 3.74 ERA.
The Rays have wanted to add a starter to provide depth to their rotation and have an opening as Shane McClanahan on Friday was placed on the injured list due to a back issue and will miss at least two starts.
His spot in the rotation comes up Tuesday, and Peralta, who was scratched from his most recent start, could be available.
Peralta is making $8 million in the final year of an extension he signed with Milwaukee and will be a free agent after this season.
